2020 CHAN : Morocco defeat Mali, Retains CHAN title
The Atlas lions of Morocco retains it title of 2020 African Nation Championship, after defeating the Eagles of Mali 2-0 for the finals on Sunday night at the Ahmadou Stadium in Yaounde.
To this effect, Morocco therefore became the first team to successfully defend back to back two editions the African Nations Championship , CHAN, trophy, after hosting and winning the fifth edition of the CHAN.
The Atlas Lions’ defender, Soufiane Bouftini scored the first goal on the 69th minutes while captain Ayoub el Kaabi doubled the score 10 minutes later to make history after Morocco hosted and won the previous edition.
Morocco finished best team after winning five of six matches at a tournament reserved for home-based players, and scored 15 goals and conceded three, while Soufiane Rahimi is voted best player and top scorer with 05 goals. Since the beginning of the tournament.
The Eagles of Mali goes back home as the runners-up of the tournament after submitting to a 2-0 win in the hands of the Atlas Lions of Morocco.
The Syli Nationale of Guinea occupies the third position after beating host Cameroon 2-0 at the Bepanda Reunification Stadium in Douala in a third placed game.
However, the Cameroon team was finally disqualified from the tournament after they were defeated by the Atlas Lions of Morocco during the semifinals. Nonetheless as the hosting country, Cameroon did a greate job as they amazingly impressed Africa and the world in colours, logistics, infrastructure among many other things in the organisation of the just ended 2020 CHAN.
The seventh edition of the African Nation Championship will be hosted in Algeria by 2022.
